Hi i have an alpine MRD-M300 Amp and want to buy a 12" sub to go with it.
The amp supplies 300w RMS at 2ohm load so i want a dual 4ohm coil sub. I am drawn between 2:-

how much better actually is it tho, at the mo i have a 10" Alpine type S sub and its been good. I was originally gonna get the alpine type r as a cheap upgrade, but everyone says JL are the dogs so that got me thinkin. Only prob is it costs nearly twice wat the alpine does??
Would the amp i have be right for the JL sub also as i heard the MRD-M300 was designed for the 12" type- R???

Not worth the jump from an S-Type to a R-Type, I have two 12" R-type's and two Alpine M500's (one on each). Go for the JL, try and find one of the older W3's as these were plenty good for your kind of wattage and probably a much better price for you...

so u dont think the change from a 10" type-s to a 12" type-R is worth it??
I wud of thought going 10 to 12 wud make a big diffo even if the sub was the same no mater about beter model??
So get JL then LOL. I dont want a W3 original i hate subs with those old style cones with the lump in middle look crap IMO, so its a W3V2 for me then, best get saving!

im after the model beolw the big feckers
the w6v2 i think
prob get a 10" as i've heard that these subs are supposed to be as loud as two 10"s, so that way i can keep the bass tight but still have enough poke to get some major rumbling
about £400 though, i think.
im gonna use an alpine MRD 500

what you think tomas? enough power?
on the jl site they reccomend that you should use a 500rms amp for that particular sub.
is it dvc? 2ohms? not sure how to wire up until i look at it.

The birthsheets for my M500's say they put out approx 580 WRMS each. Personally I always like to just over-power my subs. Couldnt tell you much about JL from personal experience but from reports and reviews they are VERY good. You would need to wire the JL down to 2ohms if possible to obtain the full wack out the amp. Didnt appreciate you were going from a 10" to a 12". I believe Alpine do use the same motor's in both 10 and 12 inch subs though so the same amp should be fine for either. In terms of sound it will sound lower going to a 12" if you box it correctly. Im thinking of going for 10's instead of 12's in my current install.

How come TOMAS??
The certificate for my MRD-M300 says its tested at 348w RMS??
So shud be OK for the 12" 300w RMS Type-R or the 12" 300w RMS JL W3V2 ??

Cos TOMAS is an SQ LOSER/POOF
and yes, that amp is fine for those subs, but please dont crank the gains etc right up!!
Ive heard an old 12W6(1995 model), bloke at work has one with old Rockford Punch amp on it, givin it about 170RMS and its loud as fook if set up properly!

GIT! 
Thinking of 10's as they are more music and the transition from midbass to subbass should be slightly smoother. I also like KICK too. In a big enough enclosure the should drop enough for me.
