Maybe biased here cos ive had both an s1 and now have an s2 rallye. Autocar said they are the caterham 7`s of hot hatches. You can feel everything thats going on in those cars when driving them hard, a true driving experience.

my choices are a bit contraversial but you know it makes sense:
saxo vts - fast, fun, cheap, and what can match it for price and fun nowadays??
clio 16v/williams - fast, fun, cheap,
R5 GTT - scary
golf GTi MK1 - hot hatches would not exist if it wasnt for this car
civic type R - kickstarted recent hot hatch wars meaning more power for less £££
no corsas get a look in for me because they handle poorly and are just slow.

Clio V6 is not a hot hatch, i would put in a specialist car catergory
also the Sunny GTIR, that goes in the same group as the Escort Cossie, Celica GT4 etc, what i would call high performance cars of their time

ermmmmm for starters a VTS is 9-10k brand new , its got 120bp
for a LOT less u could get a car to much its perforamce and some even quicker, 10k would get you a older escort cossie , GTIR which are double the bhp and perfromace of a VTS

yeah but you can get a mint R reg VTS for 3.5-4k. I cant think of anything that isnt really old that gives better performance and handling out of the box.

My best would have to be Pug 205 Gti 1.9, Clio Williams, Escort RS turbo, Saxo VTS, Pug 306 Gti-6
