What are the best places to get a pc - just the base unit - offline or shops?!?

Computer Fairs are quite good. Try http://www.fairs.co.uk/ to see when the next one is on that you can go to.

It will cost you more to build it yourself. Try one of the fairs, they do good deals.

I can build you a base system if you want I normally charge about £100 over the cost of parts but that includes carriage and a 12 month warranty.
Will you need an Operating system included in the price or will you be carrying the license for the OS over from the old computer?
What will you be looking to get from the system?
Such as do you want a proper gfx/sound card? or are you happy with intergrated sound and gfx?
What rough specs were you looking at?
