Loose some weight from the car.
Only drive it on cold days or down hills.

What i mean is, are there any little knobs or switches i can fiddle with to sap a wee bit more power--- oh and i've drilled the airbox, nice sound but my friends BFO cone sounds better!

don't fancy ditching the spare and it's a 5door so rear seats need to be kept i think. No little engine tweaks or anything??

r8cr: i might be wrong but i could swear my car runs quicker when i put 97 ron unleaded in it instead of the recomended 95 ron.
You could check to see if there is much slack in your throttle cable i suppose! If there was a lot it might not be opening the butterfly valve fully.
Oh, inflate your tyres to the correct pressure as well, that'll help.

Cheers mate! I suppose a higher octane fuel will help eh! It'll be super unleaded the next time then eh!

do you have to reset the ecu when yuo change the ron plug to a higher number??

Adam-D: So if you change the plug, do you get a performance gain on 97ron?

yes caus the ecu will readjust for optimum performance/economy for that fuel rating

But does higher ron mean a more combustable fuel?
I was under the impression that higher ron meant it could handle higher compression without self igniting. So it is generally used for performance cars with a higher engine pressure ratio.
So in theory if it is used in a corsa 1.2 there should be no difference.
BUT
Mine does seem to run better with it even with the 95 plug in it. (actually maybe the wrong plug is the reason?)
"yes caus the ecu will readjust for optimum performance/economy for that fuel rating"
..... it adjusts with the pre-conception that the fuel is 95 ron, it can't detect the fuel (hence the plug).
so..... if you put the correct plug in then the car will know it can increase compression without the knock sensor being triggered....
I think i have just answered my own question.....
Where can i get the 97 ron plug from and how much is it?

look under the bonnet between the air filter and the windscreen and will see a black thing on the end of a tube which will say 95 or 97 on it in white (ron) when you unclip it you may even find a 98 on a third side depending on the engine!

yes i think you're right. I think the others are controlled automatically by the ecu

So without having my ECU chipped I am simply wasting my money on the more expensive 97 ron fuel?
Guess i'll stick with 95 then.
The smoother sound from the engine must be all in my head.
