I have a sony CDX-M670 headunit and on my stealth shelf i have a pair of Alpine SPR-694A 6x9's. At the moment they are running off my headunit but i'm considering amping them up. Would it be worth it? Will there be a sizeable difference in sound quality?

Say if my headunit is 4 x 52RMS does it matter if my amp has less RMS then my headunit? Or will it improve everything in general and that bit isnt really that important?

your headunit isnt 4 x 52RMS, its more like 4 x 21RMS, if that. The 4 x 52 is a PEAK power rating.

if your HU says 4x52 on it then it is more than likely to be peak power.
besides its a sony HU which gives 4x52peak power.

No, but in that case how do you know what your getting if the figures they publish are incorrect?

It states in the back of the manual, in the spec listings. It states 4 x 52 Watts on the front of the unit, this is not false advertising, as it does put that amount of power out,but as a PEAK figure, not RMS which is a truer, more continuous power output.

car audio is well confusing sometimes
your speakers take 200w max, but their RMS figures are 50w.
amp wise you want something that will give them between 50-60RMS.
which amp depends on your budget. If you want something fairly cheap you could try the Alpine MRP - T130. gives 50RMS per channel.

Cheers people. I have very limited knowledge when it comes to car audio. I know the basics but the rest is a bit sketchy. Any more amp recommendations? Budget of aprrox £100.

a better asmp would be a pheonix Gold PHO - R2.52 £135 and car audiodirect.co.uk
slightly too powerful for your speakers, but you can always turn the gain down, overpowering doesn't usually blow speakers, underpoering usually does (i.e. what you're doing with your HU).

What Ohm's will the speakers or amp be running at? I'm on http://www.cel-direct.co.uk and the power rating for each amp is given at different Ohm levels, both 2 and 4 ohms.

if it were me i'd probably go for the kenwood KAC-6201, you gotta buy a wiring kit too (if you haven't got one that is) off of the cel site.

They are very good IMO. I've ordered everything from them. Tempted to go for the pheonix Gold PHO - R2.52 to run my 6X9's and the alpine awr1041d sub and alpine mrd-m300 amp to run the sub. Getting some infinity 552i door speakers at a good price soon hopefully. I'm just after a basic system that'll sound good with a nice bit of bass. Nothing too OTT.

yeah that setup sounds good, although you can get that phoenix gold amp much cheaper at caraudiodirect.co.uk (i've oredered from them as well - good company).
are those front speakers components or coaxials? (infinity 552i's)
get components cause i've ripped out my stereo and am starting again with a boot install, so i've gone back to having just basic kenwood dual mags coaxials in the front doors and they sound really crap, the sound is a little confuesed, and plays to my feet...
the components sounded much better.

They r coaxials but i'm buying them off somebody for next to nothing. Better than standard. Will probably end up replacing them in the future. I will get that lot on finance more than likely, CEL do 6 months interest free credit. If i have cash then i will deffo look around first.
Cheers!
