A couple of mates and I have decided to try and build our own web page but we are relative novices when it comes to the internet so we are basically asking for any advice, web pages, books for reference that would be helpful in us creating a page.
Thanks for any help yous lot can give.

try the C&G web design course ,it runs in the evenings normally once week for about 20 weeks

just search on google for website design help or sumthing along those lines ,i just used to the web and my brain to learn what i know ,but i aint no genious gonnna do the C&G advanced level

just look on googlr like anton says. and use something visual like frontpage.

Dreamweaver is a pretty good package if your gonna go for the 'visual' approach.
Some people prefere to use something like Dreamweaver to set out the tables that'll construct the main layout/structure of the site. Then use something like notepad to actually write the code.
As these guys have said just look on sites for html tips - you'll learn tricks like using SSI (Server Side Includes) so that you only need to link all your pages to a navigation bar thats used once rather than having to copy it onto every page.
It may seem at the time of creating the site that there's no point - but later when you need to change that nav bar background from red to blue, I know myself I'd prefere to change a single file than go edit 24 seperate pages...

I'd recommend going to college, but then I would say that, I work in a college teaching web design all day
