The paperclip/flashcode method don't work, it's a 1999 car and the barstards
at vaux disabled the paperclip/flashcode in 1997. They've also used a
completely non-standard connector to make it as difficult as possible for
3rd party code reader to work, to force you to pay the fine at the dealer.
The EEC passed a law in 2001 which said all the connectors had to be
standardised so all 2001+ cars have a standard EOBD connector - but for people
with 1997-2000, the barstards want to force us to pay the fucking 40 quid to
the dealer to read the fault codes.

Yeah its true you go look at the gunsons kit if you read the instructions
real careful it only works on cars up to 97/98, I emailed them to ask
if it works on '99 car got no reply. I've asked a number of 3rd party
codereader firms if they can read my car they say NO the socket is non-standard
and the only way to do it is with TECH2 so you get shafted for 40-50 quid
at the dealer each time.

If only you could get nere the mechanix... they keep them locked away
behind armor plated doors, you have to talk to them through layers
of "service consultants" and "sales administrators" - ie sales barstards
determined to get your wonga!
Last time they had mine up on the hydraulic stand I had the temerity
to wander into the workarea... immediately a VICIOUS "consultant" came
RUNNING out of the reception, blocking my path "have you got permission
to come into this area SIR? Please go back and wait in the waiting
room SIR..." etc etc wouldn't even let me av a luk underneaf.

That's encouraging, mine's 16-pin. So which pins did you

Ta, so: stick paper clip in and turn on ignition, then wait for the
warning light to start flashing?
Do I get 2-digit or 4-digit codes?

no, turn ignition to the point where the dash lights come on but not the engine fired up.
Pop the clip in the holes , ensure a good contact
youll get 2 digit codes as there aint more that 99 things to go wrong with the wee bugger

Nice one I'll try it out. Does zero come out as
10 flashes like it says in the gunsons book?
Got a table of fault codes?

Paperclip method should work on all cars, as all you are doing is shorting out two pins!
Go to http://www.topbuzz.co.uk , click on 'Information' on the left hand side pane, then in the main page click on Technical Guides, and Reading ECU Fault Codes.

Cheers Sam, I looked at topbuzz ages ago, it doesn't cover
my car. I don't have the right socket in the corsa to
match their description. I even emailed them to ask if
they could help, never got a reply.
