Did you build an extra bit on the bottom where the seperate door pocket usually is

I used the bottom pocket as a template and made that out of mdf.
It follows the original shape, but is filled in so its not a pocket now.
Also, this time round, I've filled the grooves to get a smoother finish.

You shouldnt struggle getting the filler then luv. You just skim it over the bits you want and use 1000/1200 wet and dry to rub it down. Not too much tho or you'll end up rubbing it off
Dya know. Its been that long since I had the speakers in, I cant remember what size they are.
I think its a 6 " component and a 6" sub.
Not going out now to measure it though. Its too cold
Not a smooth as you Trotty

Either Claire or Corb as you both seem to know what your doing,
Im gonna do some builds for 3 ways soonish and i had a thought that if i was to use some of that kinda hard foam stuff thats still light in weight but easy to sculpt, could i do the shape out of that then put a layer of fibreglass over the top
Cheers

suppose that'd work, just a case of getting the shape that you want, i did mine by just stretching and stapling and old ripped t-shirt to the card, then soking it with resin and putting filler over the top.

I've seen the foam you're on about cheeky. A bit like that oasis stuff used for flower arranging.
Its the stuff used by bodyshops to mold new designs of bumpers and stuff.
Very easy to work with cause you can rub it down with your hands to get the shape you want.
Then yeah, once you've got the shape you want, 2 layers of fibreglass sheets soaked in resin and you're sorted.
Wish I'dv known about that stuff when I did mine.
Would have been a lot easier
Its definately a 6" sub in there corb, and according to my ruler, thats 16.5 cm's

Cheeky, If you're gonna cover some of the pod with alcantara, then you'll need as smooth a finish as you would if you were spraying. That type of material shows everything up.
The material I had on was OK on the side of not having to go proper mad with the sanding,
It was cobra material and was thinly foam backed so it hid the faults.
trouble with that tho was that it kept lifting. Had it recovered three times using different glue each time, but it kept pulling off. Still dont know why
Your mind starts working over time doesnt it, once you start
corb, no King (or Queen for that matter ) at the mo, giving me plenty of time to concentrate on my car (oh and decorating the house too!!)

It will be backed with 1/4 inch foam so will hide mosts things, would i be able to get a smooth enough finish by sanding the fibreglass or will i have to use filler aswell

Yeah I got ya mate
The fibre glass paste sands down smooth, but you'll probably get a lot of pin holes. Thats where the filler comes in. If you skim filler across the fibre glass and then rub with 1200 wet and dry it'll fill the holes.
