Picking up my new computer tonight and i wanna get broadband
But who is the bestprovider
I know not to touch AOl
Freeserve seems a bit expensive, but then you get a free modem
A mate recommended "Free2Surf", are these any good as they are quite cheap(£22.50) but you have to buy the modem (£69.99)
Any advice would be alot of help

we have just got freeserve broadband!
went onto website and type in postcode, they said you do not have enough interest in your area for us to provide boradband
so we just kept logging on and typing in diffrent postcodes that are close to mine,
they e-mailed saying there connecting up soon, got the modem plug it in, wait for the lights to go green which was 2 days later and then were on, no problems at all
highly reccomend it to anybody

I'd say either Nildram or Zen, if ADSL is available in your area......you may pay slightly more than the "cheap" providers around now, but you get the service you'd expect...

Well i just had a llok on the link above, and i can get ADSl and it looks like a choice between pipex, freedom2surf and nildram.
freedome2surf is ahead atr the mo because its that bit cheaper and is still just as good
Convince me otherwise

HAHAHAHA mate, see i knew that would make ya change your mind
nah it is really good...and its got better since i was working there last year. Although, fair enough they do have there own share of problems and customer services can be a bit of a git at times but hey.
Also i could go into technical reason why you use them....but it will bore you silly, so i wont

PIPEX can provide the Alcatel SpeedTouch 330 Modem for £68.04 ex. VAT including 2 microfilters and P&P.

from memory its the green stingray thingy...yea its alright, but i would look at dabs.com or something and buy the modem seperately. Although, obivously if you buy a modem that pipex dont sell they wont support you with the modem, just the settings etc.
So it depends how good you are with computers, if ya want something simple then go for it....i suppose that way if anything happens to the thing, technical support will be able to help you fully
edit: if you phone them up, see if they still do the Fujitsu FDX310 modem. Its tiny and doesnt look ugly
edit 2: ok it isnt the stingray jobby...looks quite nice. dunno about them though....so might be worth having a look on www.adslguide.org and see what they say about them

I'd rate the types of connectors like this, with the best rated first:
Router -> PCI ADSL Modem -> Can & String -> USB ADSL Modem
USB ADSL modems aren't amazingly reliable, and they pull power from your machine (standard way that USB works), so if your PSU (power-supply) isn't powerful enough, there's problems already...
Get yourself a decent router, go with an ISP that supports a wires-only connection (ie. you buy your own kit)......again, someone like Nildram or Zen!
