I put my new number plates on yesterday and i stuck the new ones on instead of drilling through to put the screws in. now my rear number plate light does not come on! is this because the screws act as a contact and need to be put in?

Makes no diference if they are screwed on or stuck on, its probably a coincidence that the bulb has maybe blown, the same time you changed the plate.
