How many miles do u lot get to a tank? I am only gettin around 280 now. I drive my car fairly hard fair enough but I'm sure it should be better than this. It has done 97,500 miles tho.

mixture of both really, mainly short distances, so i guess the choke is on for longer, but usually within a tank there is a 40-50 mile motorway trip involved.

i am usually pretty careful about that, give it a couple of miles before it gets a good thrashing, been leavin it ticking over for a few minutes each day on the drive, i suppose that could add to the problem.

Engine seems to like it

i work for dominos pizza and i'm constanly turning the engine on and off about 30-40 times a nite but i manage to get 300 miles out of it, but i've been using optimax a lot which has given me quite a few extra miles out of it hence y i can get 300 with all the startin and stopin i do.

1.2 8v mostly short hard driving, ur gettin roughly 28-30mpg which is the most u shud be expecting really. I used to get around 350 miles round town, and up to 400 on a full tank on long 200 mile motorway drives. I got from London -> Swansea and back again just as the red light came on.

They are excellent on the motorway, but u really gotta stick to bout 55mph (just stay in with the lorries), and if there's a gradient, ur better off in 4th.

Round town, use the revs. Change up about 2.8k, and stay in 3rd gear for 30mph. These engines hate been laboured, so tryin to do 30 in 4th gear in terrible, as is fitting 17"s + induction kits. Just makes it drink it.

"and if there's a gradient, ur better off in 4th. "

thats a pain in the arse with the 1.2

the car labours in 5th going up a hill and screams in fourth.

yeah they are really hard work on the motorway when you come to a hill, i usually end up having to pull back in and look like a tit. Sounds like mine is healthy enough then. Apparantly the reason why these engines are so bullet proof is cos they're extremely de-tuned, and I can believe it!

I get bout 200-250 on a full tank now, drilled airbox, 17's, and cat back exhaust dont help the matter, also got a heavvy right foot, as all who know me well verify, its always flat on ther floor.

I get about 200, maybe more on a good day. Then again, mine is a 4 speed (that would make a difference?)...

mine used to be a four speed. i thought changing to a 5 speed gear box would help the fuel consumption but it doesnt really cos u tend to leave it in 5th going up hills

I will say that on the motorway though its a far better to drive. no howelling engine at 60 mph

an it will get up to 80 without much hassle

try some of that tesco super unleaded stuff. makes the car shift

depends how fast ur going really mate. Best fuel consumption is achieved by staying as close to the car's peak torque as possible, so up a gradient on the motorway, u dont really wanna be doing more than 50-55 in 4th (as painful as it is), labouring the engine by opening the throttle right up in 5th will drink alot more than doing 3k in 4th on half throttle.

An excellent investment wud be a Vacuum gauge....i had one on my 1.2, and it makes it very easy to see when u r/arnt using alot of fuel. I saved loadsa ££ after fittin it. And piss easy to do, too.

The first 4 gears on the F10/4, have identical ratios to those in the 5 speed box, so round town driving (up to bout 50mph) wont be affected. However, on long motorway journeys, u'll find that u'll lose a few mpg by not having 5th to cruise in, but not by much at all, as long as u just dont scream it to 90mph.

My car too used to really like the Tesco stuff for some reason! lol.

I tell u tho, after i put it back to standard (from 16"s to 14"s and normal air box back on), the difference was mental.

Not only was acceleration improved, but it did 95mph (never did that on 16"s) and gave me 5-7mpg more from a tank.

Yeah I get about 330 to a full tank. At current fuel prices it works out that for every tenner you get one hundred miles.

i'm going to be putting 195/40/16 as apossed to the 145 13" stealy's i have at the moment

this is gonna drink the fuel id say and kill performance but i'm sort of prepared for that

gonna get rid of that engine in the next year anyways i want to kill it first though
