UPDATE:
Been running my car for a few days now with drilled airbox. no noticeable increase with the power (its only a 1.2 16v!) but it feels smoother and the roar from the airbox is definately growing on me! it seems to be louder than when i first did it but maybe thats just me. lovely deep burble starts at about 3k all the way to the redline. only problem is i keep booting it now to hear the roar! defo recommend to anyone that hasnt done this quality free and easy mod yet! gonna add an extra cold air feed at the weekend to see if there is anymore difference.

i have a k&n 57! i paid £20 with a cold air feed, the roar for me is loud enough, a few flat spots tho, reseted my ECU witch helped a little bit, but what i did do that has helped, is put an air extension pipe in right on top of the cone filter!
the cold air feed is directly underneath!

i got a K&N on my 1.4 16V sport, its sounds like a scooby after bout 2500rpm no flat spots either, for smaller engines id use panel filter but for the bigger (1.4 8v, 1.4 16v, 1.6 16v) id use either K&N or BFO they both sound sweet.
Also get a 3.5" cold air feed from Green cotton filters, give ur ind kit all the air it needs

which is defo something u dont want to happen!
so do drilled airboxs

I have had a K&N57i cone, BFO cone, Drilled box with GM filter, and Drilled box with K&N filter.
And by far the best is the drilled box and K&N filter! It's incredible!
EVERYONE SHOULD DO THIS MOD!!
It's FREE after all! Except for the K&N panel filter but it still works well with GM filters.

i drilled mine the other day and the roar is 2-3 as loud as wot it was much deeper also
if u do the job right u shouldnt get any flatspots
used a quater inch drill bit then opened all them up with a half inch one
left side of the air box resembles swiss cheese
