i know this is a daft question.
but i what i want to know is, is my engine a high torque??
if it is, what does that mean? is it better than a standard?
my car is a N reg 1.4 8v LS
anyone?

yes it is, just a bit more torque, but all in all, bloody slow engines (i had one untill i saw the light  ) IMO

torque is typically the power low down in the rev range i.e. 2000-3500 rpm, and increases with displacement but other than that i'm not too sure what is the exact definition

torque is a rotational force measured in lb ft or Nm. Imagine a rod with a 1m ruler attached, and a force of 1N pushing down right on the end of the ruler. If you held the rod in your hand, you would feel a force of 1 Nm (Newton meter), which is torque. Check this link out if you want to know more
