hi guys,
my mates nova isnt starting..... he was drivin on a motorway and it overheated and since then it hasnt started....
i checked the LT/HT and i know the coil and everything is working as i'm getting sparks all round
i am getting compression ok cos i checked
havent checked the fuel pump yet to see if fuel is getting to the carb but there was a smell of fuel from the plug holes when i turned it over with no plugs in.......
i filled the coolant reservoir with water again and the water just leaks out from the bottom of the engine. its possibly leaking from around a sensor (not sure whether its oil/water temp?) dunno why leaking water would mean the engine wont start tho
nothing is seized as far as i can see cos the engine is turning over fine on the starter
anyone know what could be wrong with it?
cheers,
dan

water pump could be gone
as for not starting it may be flooded
let it dry out and try starting it and clean the plugs

water pump is on the cam belt side at the back of the engine. The CTS is is about £7 from Autovaux.

What you got to worry about most is why it overheated on a motorway!!
Doing 70mph on the road puts a LOT of cold air into the engine bay - so something is boogered - possibly head gasket and worse still the head. What compression were you getting?

wasnt a tech compression test. just put my finger over the plug hole and was def getting compression. for all i know tho it could be low
so it could be water pump, temp sensor or head gasket you reckon?........

I should think loss of all or most of the coolant means it would have overheated at any speed!!

Waterpump probably went, causing it to overheat, which could well have fried something. Looking for fueling is probably looking in the wrong direction as the overheating wouldn't have affected that. Do a proper compression test.
I take it this car doesn't have a temp gauge on the dash?
I dont think you should class that compression test as useful.
