I have a 1.4 16v ecotec engine and it has a secondary air injection pump (comes on when u start the engine from cold for a few mins while engine warms) recently its stoped workin and it seems to be due to bad corrosion on circuit boad. the car is starting and runin fine without it and i've had no luck in repairing it and vaux want too much for a new one as u have to buy the whole unit! Does anyone know what the pump actually does and if it will harm my car for it not to be working, it only kicks in when cold and my car has no probs runing starting etc without it.

Secondary air pump blow cold air into the exhaust system when cold starting engine to heat up the catalytic converter, therefore cutting exhaust emmisions down as quickly as possible (Cat works more efficiently when hot)
Thats why it only works when ur engine is cold!!!
Won't make a bit of difference to the running/performance of the car other than polute the environment that little bit quicker than if it was working !!!!!
