zonealarm is free and pretty good,i think it has an email scanner aswell.
after removing 36 viruses (including trojans and keyloggers) and 300 spyware items from a mates computer i cannot stress enough the importance of using firewalls and up to date anti virus programs (avg do a free one).
use these 3 they are free: -
adaware (spyware remover)
zonealarm (firewall)
avg antivirus (doh antivirus)
keep them all updated........

advice here seems good.
I think theres a free version of Zonealarm which will do what you want, has a friendly interface not too bad to start off with
Black ice is good, have to get a registered copy though *cough*. I use to have that running on my girlfriends computer, nice and easy to use and maintain.

NAT firewall built into the router, much easier than configuring crappy Zonealarm.
