right i need to get into safe mode but heres the problem, when i start the computer and press F2 to enter BIOS setup the keyboard dies nothing on it will work but once the computer has totally loaded up the keyboard is fine again. so heres what im asking can you get into safe mode via commnd promt. if not have you got any suggestions on how i can get into safe mode.

mine also has done this a few times, but i found that switching the system off, rebooting and doing that again a few times got it work My problem is that the keyboard died and i couldnt use the arrow keys to select safe mode etc etc
Other than that, i think its impossible....google it mate, you might find something

weird, if it dont work in dos then it shouldnt work in windows as windows goes through dos initially and runs over the top of dos as a front end.

yeah thats a point, if its usb the bios may have the usb in dos option off.

Yup. And if it's turned off, you can't use a USB keyboard to turn it on, which is a pain in the arse.

USB or not it'll work isnt there a special key you press to activeate the F selection of keys? i had this when install win 2k on gf's machiine!

Some stupid Microsoft keyboards have an "F-lock" button that you have to press before the F-keys work yes. Another possibility.
