Can anyone help me out here, I am getting some kind of greasy substance on my front wheels what thge hell is it its like a greyish colour and takes ages to get off propperly I am going through loads of sponges to just clean my wheels and this stuff just keeps reappearing when I take the car out. A friends friend who knows a bit about cars seems to think iot could be the cv joints but they were fitted new when I had the conversion done can anyone help me out before I go mad this is really annoying me now got better things to spend my cash on than sponges and wheel cleaner, many thanks Paul...

the cv boots (inner & outer) are probably not tight enough, therefore causing the grease to seep out

cv joint grease is grey by the way

just go get them checked over, or do it yourself.

do you know anybody who even a bit mechanically minded? get him to look at it - the boots wont be knackered if they are only new

no need to take the brakes of, you can even do it with the wheels on. just jack one side up and turn the steering full lock and you can rotate the wheel and inspect the boot

You need the proper metal straps if you have the flimsy ties on.

its lithium grease you need

here is a decent picture showing the rubber boot

metal clips are a tad better but plastic cable ties are fine just use pliers to pull the end of the tie to get it that bit tighter

cables ties aare fine.......but make sure u get some that are long enough.....i'd go for 12inch ones just to make sure ther long enough...cause you can always snip the excess off

and yes u can do it yourself.....no need to jack car up neither...jsut turn wheels enough so u can get ya hand and a torch behind
