How long does the auxiliary drive belt last?
Mine's done 50K miles about 5 years, should I be
thinking about replacing it? It looks OK but don't
want it to break while I'm driving.

not a massive problem if it breaks dude, you will only lose the alternator and power steering etc, if it looks cracked on the surface then replace it, its the cam belt that you should be worried about if that goes the engine will be fooked

aye and eventually ya battery will go dead (as ya alternators not charging it up) phone around and see how much it is to replace...if it aint too expensive then change it just for peace of mind

well by the sounds of it, it'll last a bit longer but if its starting to show cracks they'll only get worse... see how much it is to replace and go from there

its a DIY job man, get the right size allen key in the tensioner, slacken off the belt, drop the engine off its front engine mount (only if ya have power steering i belive) and remove belt then replace, they are auto tensioned. This is for the 16V corsas only though

ok dude I've got the 1 litre 12v engine X10XE I don't have power steering so I don't need to drop engine off front mount? Is that correct? The haynes book says the engine mount needs undoing and support engine on a hoist?

oh right so ya still do it on the 1litre, its easy, just support the engine underneath with some blocks of wood and a trolley jack, undo the engine mount pull the belt off slip new one on, use trolley jack to position engine mount inline with engine do up job done
