do you not have windscreen cover on your insurance??
some policies dont affect your NCB if you claim windscreen... worth checking

"Providing you are fully comprehensive there is every chance that you can get your glass fixed for as little as £25.
Ring 08700 132312 and ask for details of our direct billing system. Our operators will guide you through the easy system you won’t even need to fill out a claim form.
With most insurance companies it will not affect your no claims discount or your premium.
All glasses on the car are covered for vandalism, stone damage or theft. Please have your insurance details to hand when you ring"

fucks sake people get ripped off - dont go for a national firm - go for a well reputed local firm - in my area theres a place called autoglaze
They supply and fit a GSI windscreen ( with the green tintstrip in the glass at th top) for £85 - its not even worth pissing about with the insurance for that amount

Ive paid an extra tenner roughly each year for windscreen cover on my policy - ive never had to replace my screen; and if I did it'd cost me £50 - but got a small chip down in the passenger side last week - went see how much to get it fixed - he turned around and said tbh mate new ones only £85 - mite as well do that; id already have saved money if I hadnt taken out cover - its only worth it on an expensive windscreened car
ie
also got quote just randomly for a new screen for an x type jag - with the heater matrices in it - hmmm - I dont think dads gonna try and smash/chip/have to replace his ne time soon

not gonna argue cos i was trying to help m8y.
but
1-i pay no extra for windscreen insurance
2-small chips etc (no bigger than 50p piece) are repaired for free
3- everyone i know that has needed a new screen has used the insurance

just stating what i know
