Its taken me and my mate (18 and 19) with no experince of fitting engines 5 hours to take out the bottom end of old engine and drop the new one in with our bare hands. I used dog leads, and a face like this to get it out Getting it back in, we used a 6 foot scaffolding pole (nicked) and some old seat belts.Managed to lift the engine onto the front wing, have a short rest then basicly drop the fucker in hoping for the best....took another 20 mins of pulling, pushing, lots of faces, blood, sweat, and nearly piss i found it funny and couldent stop laughing.
Started at 11, finished the job at 4pm....everything is connected...not tried starting it up yet as my battery is flat and my mate has the jump leads. Not bad considering, it would of cost £30 for the crane which we didnt use because HSS was closed.£150 the garages wanted round to fit it thts with them saying it would take them a full day.
Im really pleased though, i still wonder how the fcuk we got it in but we did

thinking back, we basically dragged the engine in

danny was taking all the weight of the engine as i was laughing my ass off. Then i was like "snap outta it matt, this is serios now, we have half a tonne of engine resting on the front wing and if this falls, were shagged.

then danny was like "fuck the scaffolding pole, we'll get it in by hand"

Off went the pole, the engine was dragged and lifted untill it cleared the wing then it fell into the bay luckly the cammy got jammed and stopped the engine from falling.Afder tht, alot of pulling, pushing etc to get the gearbox lined up

u2u sent on the offer

Good work. Engines are certainly heavy, but no heavier than a 18 stone fat lad :

Me and my mate lifted a C20XE in and out of a mk3 astra estate on Saturday, was suprisingly easy tbh.

Just an update

The reason the car wasnt getting any power was because I missed out a positive connection on the battery termanal

Car started perfectly first time, its alot quiter than my old engine and so much smoother on the road.

About 5 mins into driving i noticed a strong smell of oil in the cabin, if anyone has any idea as to what this could be please reply.

Next job is to get it booked into its MOT which im sure it will pass. Its definaltly not gonna fail on breaks anyway as they where changed all round about 8 weeks ago.

Im really pleased considering me and my mate had no experince of fitting an engine, and we've managed to take out 2 engines which was done pretty quick, and fit one in 5 hours with no problems so far.Its been a laugh, got to admit as one point i thought i was taking on way too much....and ive proved alot of people wrong...my mum and dad esp.

one quote

"your gonna fit a fucking engine yourself? are u fucking metal u dont have a clue!!!?"

now who doesent have a clue

Could it be that oil/grease was all over the exhaust and after 5 mins the car was hot enough to burn it off?

Check for obvious things like oil dripping from sump onto exhaust, or unconnected breathers.
