i have decide i want to invest in some uprated cam, and vernier pulleys.
which are the best to go for?
i currently have a throttle bodied c16xe with exhaust manifold and standard cams etc.
any help would be appreciated

if keeping std pistons, lifters etc 264deg is prob your max.
Any higher would need pocketed pistons, solid lifters etc

ah, another lesson learned. i just found a flintstone thread of somebody selling his 264 degr. cams because he didn't get it to run stationary.. so it is possible that my cams are 260 degr? :/
just a bit strange that kent doesn't use default engine-specs to inform about their cams.. the powerband on my cams is 4000 - 8000 (+??) atm while the website advertised them to have a band from 3500 - 7000 rpm :/
just emailed them back with this question because nowhere on their website it tells me to have special pulleys for the cams to follow their manufacturer specifications..

mine was 3.5/4k to 7k+ too 
verniers will allow better cam timing.... prob wise

Verniers cant be used with standard management anyway due to the cam sensor pick up.
I just replied to that old thread.
I fitted the Piper bp285 cams to my tb'd c16xe, and got the pistons pocketed to be on the safe side, then got the head skimmed to make up the compression and some.

got MBE managament.
i want the car to be failry drivable. planning on a full engine rebuild soon anyway, so i may get the pistons pocketed and go for some more lairy cams

As far as I'm concerned my old engine in my Nova was perfectly drivable, and was at the apex of cost/power curve.
For your possible interest my spec was:

One of the main factors ultimatly of power and drivability is the map, so be careful with who you chose to map it.

Kent Cams Vernier Pullies - £150
Piper BP285 Fast road cams - Mine were 2nd hand, new - £300?
Pocketed standard pistons - £40?
Head skimmed 25 thou - £25
Deseemed rods - mate did mine, cheap with a flap wheel.
ARP con rod bolts - £65
SBD cam belt rollers - £100
Lightened Flywheel - £50
Balanced bottom end - £70
Roughly what those bits will cost at a guess. Plus the cost of an engine rebuild if your not doing it yourself.

already got arp bolts, can they be re-used? or are they the type that stretch when you tighten them?

what power was your engine putting out then? with all that done? im looking for around 180bhp, and was told when i bough the car that all it needed was some cams and vernier pulleys to achieve this?

It made 199bhp, although I suspect that the rollers weren't very accurate, so I'd say around 180bhp odd.
To change the cams for some with decent lift will require the pistons to be pocketed.
You may well get 180bhp with just a cam change, have a look at the SBD kits, the difference between the 164 and 184 kit is just a set of cams.

its the SBD kit that is on the car.
but i was under the impression that the bhp will vary from engine to engine, and wont be spot on what they quote every time?

Thats the nature of engines mate. I was just using it to emphasis the difference a pair of cams can make, and whats needed to use them.

A mate of mine got cams, and was gunna buy vernier pulleys but when he took it to John Noble's in Chesterfield to get them set up ... he said they dint fit :S And they were 100% for his engine
