Im having trouble connecting my girl friends new laptop with wireless built in, i believe its 802.11g (i think). Does this mean its capable of connecting to the existing wireless network (802.11a/b?). I have tried using the standard XP view available connections and it doesnt bring anything up.
Then i went to Intels website and downloaded their wireless software configuration and it too didnt find any signal, i believe its something like intel pro 5600. Is anyone able to tell me where i might be going wrong?
On her old laptop she has a pcmcia card (theres no pcmcia port on new laptop) and you can find the signal all day long, anywhere in the house and connect/disconnect anytime).

G is backwards compatible so it will work.
Look at the front lip of the laptop, does it have a switch that says 'WIRELESS LAN OFF --- ON' ?

its odd.
i had trouble connect her bro's laptop that had built in wireless too (to this day i havent been able to).
But her laptop with the pcmcia card is able to pick it up straight away.
Theres no security on the network (detached house), with her old laptop i can find wireless networks, click connect and it mentions its not a secure network and asks me again if i still want to connect.
but no such luck with this new one.
