Which would you choose and why out of a crossfire board or an SLi based setup?

SLI is faster depending what you are running.
When behind, SLI is a tiny bit behind crossfire on some games but when crossifre is behind its miles behind.

I would say get a motherboard capable of SLi. You probably won't use it but it'll be useful to have.
Very few people can afford 2 graphics cards. You're best off purchasing a 7800GT (£200). This will be able to run anything thown at it for the next year providing the rest of your system is up to scratch.
When the time comes where your games are running a bit slow, another 7800GT will be cheap as chips, enabling you to upgrade easily and cheaply.
look at the DFI Lanparty boards. I have just purchased the Ultra - D. Good board with excellent features.

you can always 'wait' for the next lot of cards, they're coming out every 5/6 months. If you did that you'll never buy one
The 7800GT and GTX will be around for a long time.

I would just get one high spec ATI card and then upgrade to a second when u need it. Why do u need 2?
Apparently Crossfire is like having one big beafy card whereas SLi is software driven for the second card

Both the cards can do half the work each on sli to so they are like having 1 big card also.
And as above
SLI is faster depending what you are running.
When behind, SLI is a tiny bit behind crossfire on some games but when crossifre is behind its miles behind.
