i got my mates MDA pro for a while but it seems to be sim locked on his sim card, even though the sim im trying to use in it is the same network as his??? (t-mobile) 
ive tried 7 times to put in a password as i though it was my pin or puk code!! but the time out is really long now!!!
how can i get it unlocked??? and how many attempts do i have left lol

are you sure its not network blocked & not just a passcode??
the phone can be sim unlocked easy enough, check out

if its barred from the network, regardless of the sim, then its a good door stop... nothing more!
if you put other sim cards in & it works, then its good!
try hard-resetting it (press & hold the power button while pressing the reset button) incase its just a phone pin & nothing to do with the network

was his sim on a monthly contract with t mobile, and is yours pay as you talk as it will probs be locked to only contract t mobile sims. if thats the case simply unlock it with the program posed above.
