I wanted to buy a 1600 GSI or Sport engine for my 1.2 16v corsa. However i've been looking now for 2 months and have had absolutely no luck in finding one. Have seen one on here, but as i'm in northern ireland it seems to be too much bother to get it posted over by the seller.
So i've just found a 1400 Sport corsa engine from a '99 car with 27,000 genuine miles. I think i'm just going to buy this now and drop it in. It has a Mantzel powerbox on it at the moment but will be removed when i buy the engine unless i want to purchase it as well.
I just wanted to know what kind of extra power the Mantzel would give me (bhp etc...) and if it would be worth paying extra to keep it with the engine?? How much in addition to the engine would the Mantzel be worth (as i've to make him an offer for it)?? Cheers!

a good 1.4 with all the bits is worth £300. 1.6 is worth £400.
mantzel is worth £250 ish. You dont 'need' cams and a remap, the 1.4 engines work great with a new inlet although a remap would be a benefit its not 100% necessary. a 1.4 with an inlet would be a good match for a standard 1.6 sport.

Agree with the above, you should be giving standard sports a run for their money.

What other engine mods could i do bring it closer to a 1600's power? If i got the head rebuilt.. bored, new pistons, bearings etc would this improve the power of the engine by much?
What kinds of speeds will a 1400 sport do on 14's? And then on 17's?
Anyone know the max bhp you can get out of a tuned 1400 sport?
Oh... and anyone selling.. or know someone selling a 1600 gsi or sport engine?
Thanks for all the help already ppl!

With a Mantzel, i would say that you will be near 1.6 sport power.
Bored, no need, new pistons, no need, bearings, WTF?
No point in going balls out on this, go for the lager 1.6 if you want to spend some serious cash, or a C20.
Max BHP, as for this, how much money do you have? Almost anythings possible with a large wallet.
If you are going for a 1.6, i would say go for the newer X16XE. Look in the classifieds on here, or go on MIGWEB.
Also, a wanted add would help.

Posted an add in the Wanted section not long ago... but no luck. People aren't keen on posting to here. The post office will deliver it though via royal mail for less than £100! Would pay more even though just to get one! I'll try MIGWEB though. I would be spending around £1000 on the 1400 inc having it fitted. If 1400 sport with mantzel would match a 1600 sport though i would be happy enough! Cheers again.

Oh... the £1000 is what i'm willing to spend... not what the conversion is costing.

Anyone else any opinions on a 1400 sport with mantzel in comparison to a 1600 sport/GSi?
