meaning if you surpress the clutch pedal it wont be pushing in the release bearing for x amount of travel on the pedal. if it has play then the pedal will rattle

I have exactly the same problem. I lift the pedal a few millimetres and the noise stops. I took it to a trusted mechanic and he says it's nothing to worry about, but it's irritating. I see the plastic block (fork) that the cable end hooks into - the cable end itself is a small metal 'cylinder' with a hole in it. I have no Hayne's manual to hand, nor the money for a few days, but I assume any cable adjustment will greatly change the biting point - plus it's done at the engine end, not the pedal end? I don't immediately see a way to adjust the plastic block at the pedal. Most obvious thing would be to replace the (return?) spring that brings the pedal back up - which looks like a hard job itself. That's all I need anyway, just the pedal lifted a mill or two. Excuse my lack of motor knowledge - I may be 34 but I only passed my driving test a month ago hehe.
