im goin to be purchasing a 250gb or 300gb SATA hard drive in the next week. if i was too do a fresh install of XP on the new drive wud i need to install the sata drives by pressing f6? if so how will i do this as i have no floppy drive? could i just eject the xp cd and insert the mobo disc?

99% sure you got to do it via a floppy, suppose you could reburn an xp disc the the sata drivers included.

You will find out if you need to specify the drivers depending onthe mobo you have and not the actual hard drive.

what mobo have you got? most mobos recognise sata drives

usually you do! Though you can "slip stream" XP with the drivers or use an USB stick depending on motherboard

the problem isnt with the mobo recognizing the sata drive, the problem is with windows setup recognizing the sata controller on the mobo
