Trying to configure a new SATA drive never done a sata drive before, its all plugged in enabled in the bios etc but windows will not pick it up, like its not there, tried drivers off my sata floppy disk aswell but no joy?

i had to copy the drivers onto a floppy
press delete to boot from windows cd
when it say "press F sumthing to install additional hardware" <--- sumthing like that
then after a minute or so, it will ask u to insert the dick for the SATA drive

have you deffo copied all the correct folders over, u need all the diff os folders and the textsetup.oem file otherwise it will be a no go.

yes they are all there, but surely windows should pick it up as a drive when its loaded up, basically i have 2 ide's and the sata, one ide already has windows xp loaded, iv just plugged the sata drive in, set it as ide mode in the bios and set it to operate in enhanced mode(tried all other modes too) but windows does not pick it up

When you say 'not there' are you talking about within My Computer or within Disk Management? (Sorry I'm making the assumption you've already partitioned and formatted it within Windows if you're talking about 'My Computer')...

Has Windows detected the actual SATA controller in device mgr?

its built into the mother board, i cant see any drivers for it, it only appears when i enable the sata as Raid.

disk doesnt appear in my computer or disk management!

when i do set it to work as raid still nothing is found

its almost like the sata controller wontappear unless its set as raid, is it possible for a sata controller to only work as raid, would i need two drives then???

yeah i want to rebuild it with xp on this drive but as it wouldnt pick up the drive in the xp install menu booting from cd i wanted to see if it was being picked up atall to eliminate it being ne thing else

if when you set it to raid and nothng is found - go in to disk management and partition it

there is nothing in disk management to partition apart from my ide's in raid more or ide mode

ok in device manager the controller appears as Intel SATA RAID Controller, does this mean its not picking up any sata drive because i only have one sata hdd installed

sorted i dno what the problem was, but sumthing in my bios went fucked up, i did a bios reset and put all settings back to how they were and it worked

if your gonna do a fresh install of windows on it, remember to have the drivers on a floppy disk and press F6 (should ask at the beginning of the installation) to load external drivers etc - then load the drivers from the floppy etc etc
