Looking on ebay before for ecu's and stuff, and came across OBD software and adaptors for the tech 2 port, it says you can re-map the car.
I thought that the standard ECU's can't be re-mapped like others?
And if it does, how's this OBD stuff work then?

its bollocks.
to be remapped you need to actually remove the Eprom that holts the map and replace it with a different one.
some ecu's can be 'flash programmed' some superchips are done this way. Ive always been very sceptical about mapping through the diagnostic port though, especially if its off e-bay

iv used tech2 before to reprogramme a z20lel to a z20ler, it basically was just using different manufacturin software to make an astra quicker. but i had to reprogramme every CAN ecu also to keep the system happy.
but with things like what superchips do, i havent a clue!!!

My Astra was mapped through the OBD port.

Can the original ECU be re-mapped?

You can map some cars through the OBD port. Though an N/A car wont respond to it much really.

you can ammend some settings using the OBD port but not re-map an ecu as such.
a standard ecu can be re-mapped by using a method called live mapping. the eprom (chip that holds the map info) is copied onto a programmable eprom. they then fit that one to the ecu and program it to the optimum settings.
Companies such as Noble and Jamsport offer this type of mapping but I would get a Dastek system personally.

yes Dave, also, the logic board that the EEPROM sits upon can only handle certain boundaries and values when it comes to tuning. best to get a fully customisable setup

The dastek system is the unichip isn't it?
