cant remember off the top of my head.. AMD 64 3500 and 3gb of ram.

what windows are you using. You will probably find that the majority of your ram wont be used in xp.

Thats a myth about the ram.
Even 98 was capable of using up to about 4gb.
how much ram have you got in that machine?

not true, the theoretical maximum was 1.5GB, but the maxphyspage line in the system.ini file limits this to 1GB. even with this much RAM, win98 was not stable. it would crash out often as a result of a conflict between the swap file and the large amount of RAM installed

are you using DDR1 or DDR2 ram? and why only one gig? surely, take it up to 2 gig minimum or you are bottlenecking even more performance?

Someone on here before was under the impression xp woudn't use anything over 1gb of ram.
Wonder where that rumour started.

rofl 1gb, I heard it was definately no more than 4gb ( most mobos wont take over 4gb )

DDR 2 mate. Ive not been in work for a couple of days so i cant remember what ram was in there.
Im positive that it was some high performance OCZ. I beleive it was PC8000 ( yes PC 8000!!!!!! )
Also customer ordered only 1gb of ram.

XP supports 4GB natively (32 bit address limit) but can be used with up to 64GB in PAE mode.

Well the processor is around £750 for itself I would say your looking around £2.5k maybe less
