i have several PCs bought from novatech (reseller), and they have shipped with the recovery operating system.

I dont have the same CD that came with the machine, but i have exactly the same one that came with another.

The PC has the serial of the OS on the side of the case, so i should be ok to format/reinstall shouldnt i?

i want to keep it legit if poss.

Any OEM Windows XP Cd will work with the serial on the side of the system. And it'll be legit. It's the serial that's the license to use the OS, the source of the media is irrelevant.

will there be any problems when it comes to reactivating it?

note: no hardware has changed in the machine since it was activated

If the hardware is the same, then there should be no problems at all.

ok thanks.

just started doing this and for the third time in a row, half way though installation im geting a blue stop screen, irql_not_less_or_equal

IVe just googled it, and it sounds like it is either cpu overheating (i did hoover out all the dust before i worked on it) or the memory is gone bad.

i have some spare ram to try in a min anway.

god i hate computers sometime

I used to get that, it was dodgy RAM that was causing it.
