http://www2.sims.berkeley.edu/research/projects/how-much-info-2003/execsum.htm
makes an interesting read for sure, as does this
http://itre.cis.upenn.edu/~myl/languagelog/archives/000087.html
they claim that 5 Exabytes will be enough storage, to store all audio ever spoken by human beings in the history of the human race, in 128k MP3 form. the scary thing is, this will be the storage capacity of large scale server solutions in 2007. they then go on to say that the calculation is wrong, and that it will take 42 Zettabytes which is 42,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes
the internet is thought to be around 17 Exabytes in size, this would take 300 years for Google to fully index using its massive server farms around the world. just goes to show how big the internet has become
