Time has come for me to reformat my PC, its getting too slow and generally just pissing me off.
Can I create a partition to back my data up to or do I need an external storage device? I've never done this before and need to keep my music, videos etc.
Been looking at external USB hdd's, are these the safest option?
Windows XP home by the way and prob about 40Gb worth of data to save.
Any help/walk through guides appreciated.

if you've never tried/done this before get an external hdd, they are cheap enough now and safest option for you
then you can do whatever you want with your internal hdd

Walkthrough is:
Back up data
Put in Windows XP CD
Reboot PC
Follow the instructions
Reinstall your drivers from the CD's which will have come with your PC
Put your old data back onto the PC.
Your disk will format during installation
