Basically i got a cheapo amp off ebay the other day but i am not sure if it works at all!?!
So if i connect the positive power lead to the positive battery and the earth cable to ane arthing point then should i get power on the amp?
Also what does the remote cable do?

the remote wire goes to the remote output on your head unit and it turns the amp on and off remotely when you turn the ignition/head unit on and off.Saves your battery you see!

as for the amp not working make sure the +ve and -ve connections on the amp are good and use the +ve and -ve from the battery to test it.Also make sure the fuse on the amp is good too!!

you need to connect the positive to the remote input as well, other wise the relay won't switch the amp on and you won't get a power light.
Also, ICE & Electrics section is there for a reason.
