Fancy one for my spare room for watching DVD's, the footy and playing on the 360. Would be rigging it up to some surround sound and mounting it on the ceiling!!! Would prefer it to be HD ready if poss?

I havent got a clue, can anyone help? Point me in the right direction? Recommend one?

Thanks in advance guys!!!!

If you can splash a bit more then look at some DLP projectors - about the best around the 1/2k area. Otherwise if you have a bit more, then CRT would be the best option - can be anything from 3-15k.
And like said, bulbs are pretty expensive...£2/300.

Generally, look out for high lumen levels (the amount of light it produces) and constrast ratios - but it does depend on what the ambient light situation is!

Look on places like avforums and on there sales bit, and keep an eye out on Ebay - would also recommend grabbing a few copies of what cinema etc to have a read through.

Like said, drunken has got a decent setup so i would u2u him and see what he says.

And >> HERE << is a good bit of basic information that would be worth reading

i dont really know the full spec of ours, its fantastic as we've got ours in the cellar.

Benq PE7700 Projector
77'' Projector Screen
Denon DVD Player
Wharfedale Surround Sound System

Then its little things like cables that really bump up the price quickly. HD cables can be silly money £50 a metre ive seen

Best off going into a showroom and getting a bundle deal, we got loads chucked in with ours.

bulbs usually have a "recoomended lifespan" on hourly usage, however i work for LG electronics and they can really go at any time to be fair. even after not much usage

Probably best, but they do usually last quite a while, just dont go knocking/bumping as that is the best way to kill on off - but if its ceiling mounted then it'll be fine.

Tbh, i would think about spending as much on the projector as possible as the picture is usually complete crap on cheapo projectors.
And i would stay clear of LCD projectors, it's a bit of a personal preference, but the wire-mesh effect can look a bit dodgy.

Just to add, he's had his projector for two years, used it everyday and never needed a new bulb yet
