Ive just plugged in my firewire card to the motherboard, there was a 4 needle socket on the outside which ive plugged the nearest plug I could find into that fits perfectly although there is a few, this is the only one which reaches. The computer hasnt picked up on it though and I have no software? What am I doing wrong?

is it an actual card or is it just a header?
If its a card, then i never known it to be connected to the mother, usually the card just slots into a spare PCI slot and windows should detect it. If not, open up hardware Devices and see if it's being shown.

If its a header then look at your motherboard manual to see which socket it plugs into!
