Just round at a mates house and he appears to be having a problem with his USB Ports. When attching his WiFi Dongle or USB Memory Stick it keeps coming up with something along the lines of 'the attched hardware has malfuntioned please reinstall the drivers' We've tried all that with no luck and it's happenign on every port.

Any ideas anyone?

are these USB ports on the front of the comp? If so he might have wired them up wrong. Check the connections going to the motherboard.

Their are 2 on the front of the computer, 4 on the back and they all have worked fine until recently. The computer is from Mesh and it's only 3 years old. Really haven't a clue what's going on.

the ones on the back will be going straight into the motherboard.

The ones on the front of the case are usually wired to the motherboard and it's easy to get the connections mixed up

I appreciate that mate but this machine has been unaltered from manufacturer and the USB ports have been working fine until recently

perhaps they're busted then. If you've tried re-installing the drivers then there's not much else you can do.

Would really have to reinstall windows to rule out software problems.

If it still does it with a fresh install and latest drivers i'd start looking towards the hardware.
