Hokay,
Got an N73 and have spent most of yesterday evening getting
it personalised for me. The phonebook had one annoying option where it, by
default, listed the names Surname, Firstname. Sorted that. What seems to
have happened, though, is the messaging feature hasn't listened!
If I send a message to Joe Bloggs, it appears as Joe Bloggs in both the
compose, outbox and sent items. If, however, I receive a message from Joe
Bloggs it says it's from Bloggs Joe!! How incredibly irritating.
Does anyone know how to sort this? I'm a man therefore RTFM does not apply.
I've checked all the menus and can't seem to find a way to change it

its easy to sort lol.
just type both surname and forename in just the forename box then they will come up as joe bloggs
same happened on my N70, not that hard to work out

That would be a valid suggestion if I was sitting adding each name one by one. Bit late when I've imported near on 200 names that are all formatted correctly isn't it? My Samsung had no issues displaying them correctly, why does the Nokia?!

i tried at least 50 different times to get them forename surname but i don't think it can be done iirc. i don't have the phone anymore so can't check.
all i did was go through ever name and erase the surname then add it to the name. don't take 20 minutes

why does it even matter tho, you are still going to know who it is when it comes up arent you? and if you have changed it on your phonebook then its even less of and irritant. Your samsung didnt do it cos it wasnt designed for business use and in the business world they do surename then firstname. Just get used to it.

Yes, but it's an irritant. Just like if it was a different colour from what I'd like. It's my phone and it's me that needs to live with it every day.

Correct, but I'm not asking about the phonebook just now.

Does it on my N80 so it's operating system related - doesn't bother me much though tbh

Bad form to reply to my own post...but WTF are on about "in the business world they do surname firstname" Last time I called a colleague I called them by their first name. Can't get over how stupid that sounds!

theres no way you can do it i don't think.
i had my n70 for a year and never could change it, just edit the names and put the whole name in the forename box

If that's the case I suppose I'll need to live with it. Would have been nice if it was switchable, though.
I'll go through the most commonly texted people and just append the surname to the firstname.

You'll soon get used to it - I'd leave it personally but that's just me.
I guess the N73 also has the same annoying feature as the N80 in that in the gallery you can't make seperate folders and put certain pics/vids in there to "hide" them from the rest of the other general pic/vids you have in there
I find that VERY annoying!
Oh and btw - this thread should be in Off Day > Geek Day

mate i have an o2 XDA and and THAT is a business phone. They used surename then first name and in all my business letter and documents i have ever read it has surename first.
D500/600 was NOT a business phone for sure it was created for your average person, i have never seen a real business person with a samsung, they normally either have a PDA or blackberrys.

The XDA isn't a business phone it's a PDA with a built in phone! The D500/600 are as much business phones as the N73.
I think you're confusing "business" and "legal", my friend. I'll fax you copies of all invoices, purchase orders, letters, reports etc with my name on it. If you find one with my surname first, I'll personally sterilise your arse crack with my tongue.
