we now have a server at our sister company 50 miles away.
Like us they are running sbs 2003, sharepoint services v2 (not moss).

Both companies have their own domains, ip address ranges etc.

Is there a way we can create a link between the two companies? (similar to vpn maybe?). Id like to be able to create a group company sharepoint to host things like health and safety policies etc

What we dont want is to have users VPN'ing into the other company just to pull a copy of the other companies data.

This is how you set it up.

Branch office VPN between teh two sites, create a trust between the two domains or disolve one domain and give the users new username & passwords and have two domain controllers.

One more thing you maybe able to do is have two instances of sharepoint services running at both sites and have one use the others database. But I am unsure as to how the DB will scale and perform over a high latency link.

A trust between two AD domains so you can trust the users within both domains to see each others files / resources

Register for a free account and read through this might be helpful, just doing the same now.
