I'd move to Northampton if it meant having a place better than what I could get here.

Just because you're a millionaire doesn't mean you have to spend a million

This is true.
Anyway, I'm not, my mum is not, no-one in my family is TBH
Mum wants somewhere smaller, so we're selling our house and hopefully buying that place with the money.

If ours sells quickly enough, we're having it, but we're going to have to drop the price of ours to sell it fast.
Lack of garden, doesn't bother, mum thinks she'll miss ours, but she hardly uses it anyway, so she's willing to go without (she can always use my brother/sister's anyway)
No garage either, but my sister has just bought a house with a huge double garage, she's already said I can use one half of it, so that's fine with me.
So, neither of them are a major problem really. The apartment makes up for the lack of both IMO.
The only issue I have is with the parking, there's one allocated space, then one guest space for the whole block (of 11). We have 2 cars, so we'd have a problem there, but the people below the one we're going for don't drive, and let the current owners use their space.
It's quite close to the road though, which bothers me a bit, but if it becomes a problem, I'll park at my brothers or sisters.

Only thing that winds me up about owning a flat is the ground rent and service charge. Just sent off £1700 of cheques for the year
I do like the security though, and I get a roof garden which is bigger than any garden I'd get with a house around here
That flat's lovely. Can't believe what you can get in Northampton for £200k -- my flat's half the size of that and cost me a damn sight more
