I've recently changed the oil on my 1.4 as it was getting v tappety & was due an oil change.
everything went well and have filled up with fresh oil, the only problem being its more tappety than it was before the oil change.
have just checked the oil again and its reading just above the maximum mark on the dipstick, so im guessing i've slightly overfilled it.
is this a problem? or will it cause any problems ?

used 10w40 semi synthetic & new filter.
car has done 135k
just wondering if overfilling the oil is a problem? its only a couple of mm over the maximum mark , is it worth draining a bit out?

have just had it running and to me it sounds more like a knock than a tap. is it worth draining a bit of oil out to just below the max mark?

might have used a thinner oil then what was in it before? As this would make engine noises more apparent.
10 40 is the correct oil to use though

use 15 40w oil, should quieten it down a bit as its thicker, as for overfilling it, I'd let some oil out the sump as you can wear out your piston rings etc.

cheers for the reply's guys.
i've let oil out so its at the right level now.
altho still sounds horrid, constant tap tap tap.
have been told could be a lazy tappet or no oil getting to one of the tappets?
im going to look into trying a different oil but what i dont want is the tappets to wear or get worse. if it is those is it a hard/expensive fix?
