when was last time u changed or checked the oil. that sound is made when the oil is gettin round the engine when u first start it. when mine first started to do this i gave it an engine flush and oil change and i was lucky it cured it. worse case is a new set of lifters or tappets or even the tappets reseated.
it is a known occurence on some engines especially 1.4 ecotech engines

might be oil pump so oil isnt gettin round the head properly. ticking is usually the tappets. how many miles u done since the oil change.... i think its best u do it every three months atleast so might be worth a try with an engine flush at first as its the cheapest option. about £15 parts

go to a car shop ask for some engine flush and some new oil and a filter
put the flush in where u put ure oil and start ure engine. sit with it runnin at no more than 2k revs for 20 min
remove sump plug (careful of hot oil) drain the oil. remove oil filter and replace with new one.
fill back up with oil
jobs a good un if i can do it anyone can

mine does this too, but my garage tells me it is a noise to do with the injectors and the fact that they are governed by solonoids?
I said about tappits and they say it cant as the engine is only 6 months old and is Brand new.

I used to get this from time to time on my old 1.4 16v, just used to change the oil, problem solved. But, on one occasion it started making that noise, I changed the oil as usual and it still made the noise, decided to take to the garage, on the way there the cambelt snapped. £800 down the drain.
Best to get it checked out, it might be nothng.

check the cam belt mate, had this twice with mine and found that the edge of the belt was chewed up. When you rev it, it used to tap as it went round the pulleys.
take the top half of the cover off and keep turning the engine over to check it.
