Right, had the corsa towed by the AA today after car making some very bad metallic clanking noises from engine.he says its suspected big end bearing!
How much are we talking about cost wise for a garage to do it?
Would it be cheaper to get a new engine?
BTW x14xe

Depends what damage has been done.
Could be a new crank job.
Usually another bottom end is the cheapest option yeah.

You can fit big ends from underneath but your crank has probably been damaged.
All you need to do is take the sump off and you can undo the bearing caps and have a look but the big end failures ive seen leave you with a scored crank

so will i need to take the crank bottom pulley off and timing belt etc?
A list of instructions would be good if someone can sort it for me?
Thanks

no need to take off the bottom pulley or timing belt if you just change the bearing shells.
1) remove exhaust downpipe
2) remove sump
3) you will see all the bearings then, hold the bottom of each con rod and feel for play, the one thats gone will have play in it
4) each is held on by 2 bolts, take these out, I think they are E-torx bolts but someone else will have to confirm that so if you havent got a set then buy some
5) Look to see if the crank is scored underneath where you have removed the bearing cap.
Its pretty straight forward and it will all become clear what you have to do while you do it
