checked what the plugs are running like?
sounds like you might have a timing issue or something like a crached head.

egr has been removed and blanked off so i know its not that, and timing has all been done last week.

still got problems and it wont go through mot with the misfire... just happens between 2k-3k when stationary and applying throttle. Could it be injectors? and how do i go about cleaning these (ran redex through loads and still the same), panel filter could do with a bit of a clean i guess. Or could it be the head on the way out and if so how do i check this myself as the car runs fine apart from when idle at 2-3k revs.. need some advice ive spent nearly £600 trying to fix this

had exactly the same problem on a customers car recently. check the following:
coilpack
crank sensor
throttle position sensor
EGR valve (even if it is blocked off, very common cause for this problem)
diagnostioc tools wont always find a fault. If you want to bring it down to me one day just ring me to book it in, have every spare sensor available in stock to try and swop over, cheaper than buying new ones!

Is the engine standard?

only mods are different manifold and panel filter on the engine, oh and a ecotek valve i fitted to try and reduce emmisions, but that was put on after the misfire began.

Weird you say that.
I have a mantzel copy too, and my engine has a "stutter" between 2-3k rpm.
I put it down to still running the standard ecu, as it wasn't like that when i had the standard manifold on!

mine was running fine though even after it had it fitted, i dont think its due to the standard management either, its just one of lives mysteries at the minute, im slowly building a new engine bit by bit with all the sensors and parts ive bought lately.
