Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 Club - 03

Two weeks ago, the engine management light came on the dash. Had a scout around the engine bay and noticed the water was very low. Things started to add up. Checked the oil cap and there was mayo. Oh dear. Anyway, got some lad to change the head gasket and do the timing chain while he was there.

Got the car back two nights ago. Drove home and checked the water the next morning. It had gone right down again but I thought this was because of air in the system. Filled up the water, and it has still gone down a bit since but not so drastically. I have done five 10 mile journeys. Checked out the oil cap and there was the dreaded mayo!!

Anyone got any ideas?

the mayo might just be condensation, go for a proper long drive then check it.

as 12vMatt says, if your only doing short stop/start journeys and the engine isnt getting up to the running temp for long then condensation will build up inside the rocker cover and that mixed with the oil giving the mayo substance. the coolant loss at the start after its been changed was most probly an airlock inside the heater matrix

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing and did go for a longer drive. Water levels appears to be remaining constant.

I think I am getting paranoid after only paying £130 for all the work to be done (including parts), but it seems to be good.

Appreciate the feedback. Cheers.

I get the mayo under my oil cap and my tempereture is at rock bottom all the time. I do a lot of 10 mile journeys too, i asked about it here and everone said it was condensation becuase of the short journeys. I reakon you're in the same boat.

When I first put my new engine in my Corsa I thought it had a headgasket fault after getting mayo on the cap. But a 30 mile drive and it all stopped. Must have just been where it was sitting.

The post above me sounds like your problem.
