Just been having a go with an old file, rendering to full 1080 HD in Maya. Obviously reduced the size for here but I'm still pretty impressed with this software
Used a little too much tyreshine when detailing though

Nice work. I find getting chrome, mirrors and clear stuff the hardest to get right... Takes lots of practice to get it right doesn't it. Annoying when a rendering takes such a long time

There's a lot more tuning in Maya that you can make use of to get the right effect, unlike Max where it's a bit hit and miss.
Hardest thing is to not have it looking too "perfect".

I might need to go out an buy a copy of Maya for an experiment...
I want my work to be amazing next year so I need my renderings to be better than what Photoworks can produce as my peers at uni seem to be getting rather good at that, even though Photoworks is a load of crappp.

I'm using 7 Unlimited at home, but 8.5 is out. Considering buying it for Freelance work, as it's less than £3k now
Send me an iges file of something you want rendering and I'll do a trial run if you want

When you say 1080 HD - is that not just a 1080 high raster?

Well it renders to 1080 and includes extra light information/alpha channels. It's not something I've gone into, just a selectable preset within the render stats.
