Currently i've got the following:

Processor (CPU)
Number of CPUs: 2
Name: Pentium 4 (Northwood)
Clock frequency: 3000 Mhz
Socket: Socket 478 (J2E1)
Voltage: 3.30 Volt
Technology: 0.13 µm
Vendor: Intel Corporation
Model: Familie 15 Modell 2 Stufe 9
Cache(s): 8 KB Level1 ; 512 KB Level2 ; 0 KB Level3 ; 12 KB Trace

Motherboard
Model: D875PBZ
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
On-board devices: Intel GMCH AGP Graphics Controller
Intel Ethernet Device
Intel ICH5 Audio Device

Display and Graphics Card
Name: RADEON 9800 XT - Secondary
Chipset: RADEON 9800 XT Secondary AGP (0x4E6A)
RAM: 256 MB
DAC: Internal DAC(400MHz)

Need to upgrade my Graphics Card really and I've been looking at some info on these new dx10 cards and i think it's worth waiting maybe a month or two for some more to hit the market... but i'd probably then need to upgrade my Motherboard and CPU. Anybody got any recommendations?

Budget: £500-600

Computer would be used for Rendering, 3D CAD, Gaming .etc so it's got to be a decent card

AGP??

If it was me i'd save more than 500 quid mate as that m'board will need replacing, plus a low end DX10 card will cost at least £320

I'd also swap for an AMD Dual core based system as they are cheap to buy now and are superb performers for the money.

Russ is correct, for anything solid i would get an intel as Amd chips are only worth getting if you do a lot of gaming.

I would wait a bit tbh, as things are going to change a lot in the next few months, especially with quadcore stuff coming out...so expect prices to be cut on dual cores.

As for dx10, wouldn't bother tbh, unless you're really into your games. If you're doing cad/3d work, you should be looking at matrox/nvidia quads really.

get yourself over to forums like overclockers.co.uk and go hunting around the forums.

Personally i would look at getting an Intel D805 (dual cores too), runs at 2.6GHz stock, but can be clocked to 3.8GHz (so 60 quid processor, thats equivilant to something in the 400 quid region ) just using air cooling. Get an Asus PW5 board, a few gigs of decent ram and say a 7800GT. Should be no more than 300/400 quid tops

they reckon gfx cards will soon becme redundant and that all graphics processing will be handled by one core of a multicore cpu

Would have to be a graphics core then.

Normal cpu's are rubbish at graphics.

Get yourself a nice Core2Duo E6600.(Around £200)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-128-IN

I purchased a ATI X1950 this month too as they have been reduced to £150

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-063-CO

This leaves a good £150 for a decent mobo.

Something like this
