Not if it has a spring on it you dont, you turn the selctor rod 1 way cant mind which tho and push the pin in and it will lock in place for you to set the linkage and tighten the bolt

On some gear boxes they dont have a spring on the pin so they need removed and a drill bit used but if theres a spring on it then it pushes in

idealy you need 2 people to do it.....one pushing it in.....and one closing the bolt once you have the gears

it "should" be a little bracket above the "linkage rod", you tighten it from the top iirc

No you dont Once the pin is pushed right in it locks itself so you can get under and tighten the bolt on the selecter

This can easily be done by one person.
First you loosen the 13mm clamp bolt that attaches to the selector rod under the car.
You then lock off the selector on the box with the drill bit as mentioned.
Then you lock off the gearstick in car. Remove the gaitor and you will see that if you push your gearstick to the left it lines up two holes....chuck a screw driver in them to hold it there.
Then get back under the car and tighten the clamp back up, making sure it is fully over the selector rod. I always cut a bit of the rubber sleeve back to make it easier.
Once proper tight, remove the drill bit and the screwdrivers from the gearstick incar.
Job done...

Under the car (right under)
You will see where the selector rod pops out from the rubber sleeve...and is clamped to the first part of the gear linkage.
It starts at the base of the gearstick incar and runs central...you'll find it

hey m8 just back in
yes got it sorted the now wat it was is the rod going from the actual gear stick (inside car) the end of that which is ment to have the pin going thru it to hold it to the other rod, had came off at oneside so was moving everytime i tried to get a gear, a m8 of mine had a spare one hanging abaout so he fited it for me
£20 later its all done and i have all 5 gears including reverse again, wat a difference
so big thanks to all of u who helped me out, much apreciated
derek
