Going to go to my letting agent in a few days time to ask, but...
What are peoples experience with asking for new stuff if you are renting?
I want to have the splashback in my kitchen tiled. It's a bit silly having a painted surface behind the sink as the wall is getting a bit dirty and there is only so much I can clean away with my magic eraser

My landlord back at my old house was a bastard Soon as you ask for something you wouldnt hear from them
I had damp in the living room was meant to be sorted never botherd there arse, i ended up not paying rent for a good 3 months then fucked off without telling them.
You get the odd landlord that will do anything you ask so you might be the luck one of them

If you ask him to do it it'll never get done.
Ask for permission to get it done yourself and he'll say yes in an instant.
Depends if you care what the wall looks like.........in any case you should let the landlord or agent know so that they don't try to make you pay for 'damage' when you leave.

as a landlord i would think that a pretty reasonable request. box of white tiles, £4. grout+adhesive etc, not much.
if you asked for the drive to be block paved it might be different (you live in a flat don't you? )

Our old landlord was pretty good - replaced kitchen appliances as soon as they broke, paid us to repaint the bathroom, re-gravelled the drive, etc. Told him that the bathroom should be tiled, he disagreed, so I just did it anyway. He offered to pay for it when he saw it had been done, but I wouldn't let him as it was my choice to do it.

tbh it would probably be in his interest to get it tiled and its easier to maintain
